Scaffolding

This blog is my attempt to capture Romania as I see it: the good, the bad, and the ugly. I've lived in the US for a number of years, and seldom visited my country during this time, so I probably have a different perspective than my compatriots.

Pictured is a scaffolding that certainly violates the safety code in most civilized countries. Given the crash of the housing market in Western Europe, Romanian construction workers no longer have the same options of working abroad.

The house has an ecological window ("termopan"). Installing these windows has been a booming industry in the past few years. One of my neighbors, who plays the horn in a philharmonic orchestra, opened a small business that customizes and install such windows. He makes them from parts in his apartment. All without any papers or paying any taxes, of course.
